Oman Inaugurates Sohar Hospital Expansion

The Ministry of Health today inaugurated the expansion project of Sohar Hospital to the tune of RO 28 million. The project increases capacity by 270 beds to reach a total of 636 beds.

The first phase of the project was implemented with the direct supervision of the Royal Court Affairs. The project was carried out within the framework of the government’s efforts to ensure that services are delivered to the target segments and to promote decentralization in governorates. It also comes in line with keeping pace with increasing demand of specialized healthcare services.

The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of Abdulsalam Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), at the presence of Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.

The expansion project includes the accident and emergency department, where the number of added beds reached 68. Those include eight for resuscitation (for adults and children) and setting up an adult intensive care unit (ICU) equipped with (17) beds. Moreover, 25 beds were added for the dialysis unit equipped with hemodialysis machines to keep pace with the steady increase in dialysis patients.
