MoPH, QMI organise first Qatar Diabetes and Obesity Research Symposium – The Peninsula

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in collaboration with the Qatar Metabolic Institute (QMI), Hamad Medical Corporation, organised the first Qatar Diabetes and Obesity Research Symposium virtually.

The symposium was successfully co-delivered alongside the Qatar Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolic annual Conference (QDEM-6).

In his opening speech, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, Director of the Public Health Department at the Ministry of Public Health, said, “Researchers across the globe have long argued for more insights into the pathophysiology and treatment of both diabetes and obesity. To promote research in this area, the National Diabetes Strategy, 2016-2022, has developed a comprehensive research agenda for diabetes related research."

He added, “We are very proud to hold a Diabetes and Obesity Research Symposium which is the first step towards the implementation of the Qatar Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors research agenda. We look forward to have it organised annually to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among researchers in Qatar.”
