Women’s Emergency Dept at HMC sees 70000 patients a year – The Peninsula

The Emergency Department at Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) of Hamad Medical Corporation receives more than 70,000 patients a year, making it one of the busiest emergency departments in Qatar.

The WWRC Emergency Department (ED) is a unique purpose-built service tailored to the needs of women.

Services are available 24/7 for all women in urgent need of care, said Senior Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Moayyad Ahmed Younis, who is Head of Gynecology at WWRC.

HMC operates a unique emergency services system, as one of only a few countries in the world to have a separate, dedicated women’s emergency department.

“Our services includes dedicated emergency to women from preconception to childbirth, post-natal care, to their wellness and beyond the reproductive phase of life,” he told The Peninsula.

“If you are suffering from an obstetrical medical emergency or need immediate care, our team is here to help you. We are also there to help with gynaecological emergencies. Our Emergency Department is equipped with advanced imaging and diagnostic tools for immediate and accurate diagnosis of your condition,” he added.

However, Dr. Younis urge women to differentiate between emergency and non-urgent conditions while seeking health services.

Emergency conditions include abnormal vaginal bleeding during pregnancy, sudden onset of abdominal pain
