Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH — The Deputy Minister for Preventive Health and the Infectious Diseases Consultant Dr. Abdullah Bin Mufreh Asiri has explained the reason for the increase in the number of COVID-19 fatalities in China recently to more than 60,000 deaths within one month.

He clarified that the reason for this huge increase is due to 2 main reasons, the first of which is poor vaccination coverage for elderly people.

The second reason is because of the usage of vaccines with limited effectiveness against the Omicron mutant and its subspecies.

It is noteworthy that China is currently witnessing a huge increase in the number people infected with COVID-19, despite following the "zero-Covid" policy, that it has been following since the start of the pandemic three years ago.
