Doctors in Dubai have been conducting highly sophisticated, world class surgeries and medical treatments in the field of orthopaedics, organ transplants, oncology and so on, over the past few years, a trend that has helped boost the medical tourism sector in the country, experts said.

The UAE and Dubai have established themselves as the leading medical tourism hubs. As per US-based medical Tourism Association report published in 2021, the UAE is ranked as the leading medical tourism destination among other GCC countries. Dubai, in particular, has been ranked by the Global Medical Tourism Index as the first Arab destination for medical tourism and features six in the list of 46 most unique international medical tourism countries.

After the pandemic, as public health concerns grew, preventive health and wellness have gained worldwide prominence. Dubai’s growth in this field has been phenomenal and this achievement is reflected in the revenues and the high response from medical tourists, worldwide, in 2021.

According to the Dubai Health Authority, the top five medical tourism areas are aesthetic and cosmetic surgery, dental surgery, fertility and in-vitro fertilisation, orthopaedic
