Oman: Oman researcher devises new plant-based bandage which can help heal wounds faster – Gulf Digital News

A researcher from Oman's University of Nizwa has devised a new bandage made from plants, that could heal wounds much more quickly.

Saied Vakilian, who works as a researcher at the Laboratory for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at the university's Natural and Medical Sciences Research Centre, led a team that used compounds from two medicinal plants to create the bandage.

The invention is one of the winners at the latest edition of the National Research Award, organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (Moheri), Times of Oman reported.

“This winning project aimed to evaluate a bioactive multilayer wound dressing based on chitosan and alginate,” Vakilian said, adding that dracaena cinnabari and aloe vera were loaded as separate layers into the scaffold to enhance healing potential.
