UAE issues operating license for Barakah Nuclear Power Plant’s Unit 2

UAE - Mubasher: The UAE Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) has issued the operating license for Unit 2 of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The license was granted to the Nawah Energy Company (Nawah), the subsidiary of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), responsible for the operation of the nuclear power plant located in Al Dhafra in Abu Dhabi.

Once fully operational, the Plant's four APR1400 design nuclear reactors will supply up to 25% of the UAE's electricity needs.

As part of the UAE's objective to diversify its energy sources, the Plant's construction works started in July 2012, following the receipt of the construction license from the FANR.

It is noteworthy to mention that in December 2020, the reactor of the Plant's Unit 1 achieved 100% of its rated capacity power.
