ADNOC unveils region's 1st high-speed green hydrogen refueling station

UAE – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has opened H2GO, which is the region’s first high-speed green hydrogen pilot refueling station, according to a recent press release.

Located in Masdar City, the pilot station aims to test a fleet of zero-emission hydrogen-powered vehicles, as it will create green hydrogen from water using an electrolyser powered by clean grid electricity.

Local and international partners will join forces to handle the project in order to advance zero-carbon hydrogen transportation. It will also be operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for Distribution (ADNOC Distribution).

Bader Saeed Al Lamki, CEO of ADNOC Distribution, said: "In line with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, we are committed to providing sustainable mobility solutions and supporting the energy transition.”

Abdulla Balalaa, Chairman of Masdar City, commented: “We welcome this partnership with ADNOC to pilot hydrogen in the UAE. Currently, transportation accounts for approximately 20% of the total global carbon output, and we need to work across every technology possible on our journey to net zero.”

It is worth highlighting that ADNOC has allocated an initial $15 billion (AED 55 billion) to boost lower-carbon solutions and develop decarbonisation technologies to lower its carbon intensity by 25% during 2030 and achieve
