Alba plans to cut emissions

MANAMA: Alba , the world’s leading aluminium smelter ex-China, is seeking to become a partner with the government in achieving Bahrain’s plan to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2060, said company’s chief executive Ali Al Baqali. “The company’s plan, including several short, medium and long-term initiatives aiming to reduce carbon emissions, will be ready in February next year, after being submitted to the board of directors and approved,” he told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej. He was speaking on the sidelines of his participation in a UN Development Programme symposium to shed light on Bahrain’s strategy to reach net zero emissions by 2060. He said the company has set up a Spent Pot Lining Treatment Plant for up to $40 million to contribute to environment protection in the kingdom and issued a tender to seek developers for a 5MW solar power plant on its premises in Bahrain as part of its initiatives to diversify sources of energy and use clean energy.
