Have you ever imagined what Bahrain would look like if it were more walkable, greener, and less car-focused? These two young Bahraini designers have reimagined Muharraq as the ideal urban city.
On Friday, Mohamed Dadabhai, a licensed LEED architect, along with Hamad Al Mannai, a practicing physicist, gave a talk hosted by Design Majlis as part of the Muharraq Nights programme, where they showcased their strategies for future urban design to improve traffic flow, pedestrianisation, consumerism, well-being, and much more.
The proposal, titled "Sustainabuild,” is a manifesto for future sustainable building techniques in Bahrain. Behind the presentation comes year-long research, where the two young professionals studied urban precedents, zoning, street design, and case studies of cities where similar urban strategies are implemented.






Hamad’s interest stems from his extensive reading and experiences of interacting, walking, and living in Muharraq. As a result, he focuses on a more theoretical approach, whereas on the other hand, Mohamed brought in the technical aspects after studying architecture and sustainability. The architect earned his LEED certificate during his Master’s degree, where he published his research on Net Zero Carbon Concrete.
