Bahrain’s Alba unites with Japan’s Mitsubishi to reduce its carbon footprint

Aluminum Bahrain (Alba), the world’s largest Aluminum smelter ex-China, has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries EMEA (MHI EMEA), to collaborate towards reducing Alba’s carbon footprint in a step that will accelerate its ESG transformation.

The MoU, a first-of-its-kind with an aluminum producer, will lay the foundations for a feasibility study on utilizing the technology to capture CO2 from flue gas, developed by MHI Group in collaboration with Kansai Electric Power, to reduce Alba’s plant emissions for decarbonization.

The signing ceremony was attended by Alba’s Chairman of the Board Mr. Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa and Mr. Kentaro Hosomi, CEO of MHI EMEA, in the presence of Chief Executive Officer of Alba, Mr. Ali Al Baqali and Chief Power Officer Mr. Amin Sultan, in addition to senior officials from MHI Group.
