Egypt advances green hydrogen projects with 27 MoUs, 10 binding agreements – Egypt Today





CAIRO - 30 May 2024: Egypt has entered into 27 valid memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and 10 binding framework agreements to enhance hydrogen projects, Randa Al-Minshawi, First Assistant to the Prime Minister and Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Green Hydrogen Council, announced.

 

Additionally, preparations are underway to finalize two more binding framework agreements.

 

These announcements were made during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, where the progress of green hydrogen projects was discussed.

 

The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of converting several framework agreements related to green hydrogen into actual contracts for these projects. 

 

He stressed the need for immediate action to complement the ongoing efforts of the state in this field.

 

Al-Minshawi highlighted that multiple meetings have taken place with the European Union to discuss hydrogen projects in Egypt.

 

 Furthermore, a forthcoming meeting is scheduled with the chief of the energy division within the European Union.

 

Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), Mohamed El-Khayat, shared that the locations for green hydrogen production projects have been allocated based on the 27 MoUs signed with various investors. 

 

These projects have a combined capacity of approximately 115 gigawatts, consisting of 63 gigawatts from wind energy and 52 gigawatts from solar energy.
