Italy’s Eni announces 500th successful cargo from Damietta LNG plant in Egypt

Egypt - Damietta LNG facility has produced and loaded its 500th shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) since it began operations in 2005, Italy’s Eni announced in a press release on February 1st.

Since its restart in 2021, the Damietta LNG facility exported 7.2 MT of LNG.

The Damietta plant has exported 7.2 million tons of LNG since its restart in 2021.

In 2022, the LNG terminal produced and exported about 4 million tons of LNG, deemed as the largest volume in its almost 20-year history, making Egypt’s first facility in terms of LNG exports and contributing to the country’s role as an energy hub in the Mediterranean.

Approximately 60% of the total cargoes from the facility was delivered to Europe.

The Damietta plant is operated through a joint venture (JV) between Eni and Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).

“The facility plays a pivotal role in Eni’s strategy, aimed at ensuring gas supply security and diversification, while at the same time contributing to the energy transition,” the release added.

Eni has presence in Egypt since 1954, operating through the subsidiary IEOC.
