Middle East Green Summit to begin tomorrow in Egypt

Saudi Gazette report JEDDAH — Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman will grace the second edition of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) Summit, which will kick off on Monday in Egypt. The summit will be co-hosted by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt. The second edition of MGI is being held in conjunction with the COP27 World Leaders Summit in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm El Sheikh. Saudi Arabia will shed light on the key climate challenges facing the region, update on the progress since the inaugural summit in 2021, and announce new programs accelerating climate action for the region. The inaugural MGI Summit was hosted by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in October 2021 in Riyadh. It facilitated a first-of-its-kind regional platform for action on climate, with leaders in attendance from more than 20 countries agreeing to work together to tackle climate change. Initiatives under MGI will plant 50 billion trees across the region, restoring an area equivalent to 200 million hectares of degraded land. MGI initiatives will support the region to reduce and eliminate CO2 emissions equivalent to 10 percent of global contributions.
