T he FTSE 100 has pushed higher at the open after US stocks surged in after-hours trading. The blue-chip index rose 0.8pc to 7,588 points. U pper Crust owner SPP Group suffered a hit from the omicron variant in January as people stayed away from travel hubs. The food group said sales had recovered to 66pc of 2019 levels between October and the start of December, driven by strong trading at train stations. But this fell back to 57pc in the eight weeks to the end of January as omicron and fresh travel restrictions hit passenger numbers. SSP said it was continuing to monitor demand and current had 1,950 sites – or 72pc of its total estate – open. The company said it's aiming for a return to pre-pandemic revenue and profit by 2024.
