Sarta well disappoints for Genel

Genel Energy has completed the Sarta-5 appraisal well but reservoirs appear tight and it failed to flow.

The company said the Kurdistan well had produced around 800 barrels of light oil from the Najmah formation. However, it could not produce from the primary reservoirs of Mus and Adaiyah, or from the secondary Lower Sargalu and Najmah formations.

Genel said it had identified tight reservoirs as a “critical risk” before drilling. The company will integrate the results into its understanding of the Sarta field and next steps.
