Stock Futures, Oil Prices Rise Ahead of Jobless Data

U.S. stock futures and crude prices inched higher ahead of jobless figures and manufacturing data.



S&P 500 futures rose 0.6% and futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.4%. Changes in equity futures don’t necessarily predict moves after the markets open.



In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 climbed 0.2% in morning trade as gains in energy and real-estate sectors were offset by losses in materials and healthcare sectors.



The U.K.’s FTSE 100 added 0.1%. Other stock indexes in Europe were mixed as France’s CAC 40 rose 0.3% and Germany’s DAX climbed 0.2%, whereas the U.K.’s FTSE 250 shed 0.1%.







The Swiss franc, the euro and the British pound were down 0.3%, 0.2% and 0.1% respectively against the U.S. dollar.



In commodities, international benchmark Brent crude was up 0.3% to $118.09 a barrel. Gold also strengthened 0.4% to $1,945.30 a troy ounce.



German 10-year bund yields fell to 0.465% and the yield on 10-year gilts gained to 1.630%. 10-year U.S. Treasury yields were up to 2.339% from 2.320%. Bond yields and prices move inversely.
