The Australian engineering company Worley, which offers project delivery and consulting services to the energy sector, will provide conceptual feasibility studies to develop and challenge Green Energy Oman’s (GEO) defined green hydrogen energy project.

The project involves optimizing close to 25 gigawatts (GW) of wind and solar energy, converting this renewable energy into green hydrogen through electrolysis, and producing, storing as well as exporting green ammonia.

The GEO Project Consortium comprises OQ, Oman’s global integrated energy company, InterContinental Energy (ICE), a leading dedicated green fuel developer, and Kuwaiti government-backed clean energy investor and developer Enertech.

In addition to defining project components, this study will identify opportunities for value addition within the country over the expected 10 year project implementation period. This includes employment and development for Omani citizens and value addition through the local production and distribution of Omani companies across the distribution network.

The plan is to produce 1.8 million tons of low-carbon green hydrogen, which can produce 10 million tons of green ammonia per year, further supporting the local economy and the global market by exporting green ammonia to help decarbonizes other countries.

Worley will lead operations from its Muscat office with support from centers of
