OETC opens RO14mn Saih al Khairat grid station

Muscat – The RO14mn Saih al Khairat grid station in Dhofar was inaugurated by Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) on Wednesday.

The event, held under the patronage of Ahmed Hamed al Subhi, Chairman of Nama Holding, was attended by Saleh al Rumhi, CEO of the company.

The grid station is a strategic investment for OETC, guaranteeing a stable and dependable energy supply to vital sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture and livestock facilities. Its purpose is to meet the increasing demand for electrical energy in Dhofar in the coming years.

Equipped with robust communication infrastructure and security systems, the grid station also features a 91km overhead transmission line connecting it to the Thumrait grid station. The transmission line operates at 33/132kV. It has six gas insulated cells of 132kV, four cells of 33kV, and two 125MVA transformers.

Speaking on the occasion, Rumhi emphasised the significance of the project in connecting rural areas to the electricity network in Dhofar, thereby reducing operational costs.

“Implementation of this project aligns with Oman’s vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. It is expected to reduce reliance on diesel fuel for station operations, resulting in a significant decrease in carbon emissions of approximately 114,000 tonnes annually,” he said.
