Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel (JSIS), the biggest steel mill in the Sultanate of Oman, stated that the output from its integrated complex located in Sohar Port and Freezone reached new highs in December 2021.

The company which was a subsidiary of the leading Indian steel producer, Jindal Steel and Power (JSP), said that the production of reinforcement steel bars (rebars) at its rolling mill, which is established in collaboration with Italian company Danieli, hit a record of 6222 metric tons per day on December 18th, 2021, during a 24-hour period, exceeding its previous peak of 5716 metric tons.

Jindal Shadeed operates an integrated complex including a gas-based Direct Reduction Plant (DRI) supplied by US-based Midrex Technologies, which has four briquetting machines for the production of hot briquetted iron (HBI) and is facilitated by the unique gravity feeding technology for transferring Hot DRI (HDRI) directly to the Electric Arc Furnace of the Steel Melt Shop.

Using the steel billets produced in-house for its rebar output, the rolling mill churned out 268 tons per hour (tph) of 20 mm rebars on December 18th. This led to setting a new world record, crediting the feat to the team rolling mill at Jindal Shadeed.
