Over 923,000 invasive birds eliminated in 4 governorates  Muscat – Over 923,000 invasive birds have been successfully eliminated across four governorates of Oman, according to a report by the Environment Authority (EA).

Headed by Dr Abdullah al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, the main committee for combating invasive birds convened to assess the progress of the campaign in various governorates on Tuesday.

The meeting also focused on devising a sustainable plan for the future and addressing the challenges posed by invasive bird species, with a keen emphasis on implementing effective measures to ensure environmental protection and biodiversity preservation.

The Authority has reported significant achievements in controlling invasive bird populations across several governorates.

Since January 2024, efforts in the South Batinah governorate have resulted in the successful control of 188,333 invasive birds. Similarly, in the Dhofar, initiatives have led to the elimination of 126,659 invasive birds, while collaborative efforts in the Muscat governorate, involving various government sectors, have controlled 48,634 invasive birds. These accomplishments underscore the effectiveness of tailored mechanisms employed to combat targeted bird species.
