EXCLUSIVE: Details on Qatar’s “spinning” hotel that produces its own electricity – MEP MiddleEast

Istanbul-headquartered Hayri Atak Architectural Design Studio (HAADS) has revealed its design plans to construct a 152-room, five-star floating hotel that will not only produce its own electricity, but will also have zero-waste incorporated into the designs.

The designs also show that the Eco-Floating Hotel will be constructed on top of underwater “blades” comprising propellers that will spin the massive structure slowly using Dynamic Positioning technology – which involves the use of computer-controlled systems that automatically maintain the hotel's positioning and heading by using its own propellers and thrusters. The five-star hotel will complete a full rotation once every 24 hours.

Commenting on the project in an exclusive interview with MEP Middle East, the HAADS team said: “Due to its characteristic moving feature, the hotel will generate electrical energy by rotating around its position, according to the water current, and will provide users with different perspective experiences.

“As HAADS, our team has studied the project with various opinions and technical knowledge from many different disciplines and visions. In this sense, consultants from different fields such as ship construction engineers, ship architects played a big role in the project process for the five-star clean energy, zero-waste hotel.”

The clean energy-driven Eco-Floating Hotel will also
