Germany to get new Qatari LNG flows through QatarEnergy, ConocoPhillips deal – Reuters
DOHA, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Germany is set to receive new flows of Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) from 2026 after QatarEnergy and ConocoPhillips (COP.N) on Tuesday signed two sales and purchase agreements for its export covering at least a 15-year period.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February, competition for LNG has become intense, with Europe in particular needing vast amounts to help replace Russian pipeline gas that used to make up almost 40% of the continent's imports.
The deal, the first of its kind to Europe from Qatar's North Field expansion project, will provide Germany with 2 million tonnes of LNG annually, arriving from Ras Laffan in Qatar to Germany's northern LNG terminal of Brunsbuettel, QatarEnergy's chief executive said.
Germany has imported enough LNG from the US to supply 50,000 German households with energy for a year. It was imported by tanker over the past two days through a new floating terminal in the North Sea port of Wilhelmshaven as Germany diversifies its energy supplies.
🔆Germany, in a desperate bid to keep its lights on, has just inked a long term LNG deal through Qatar (but actually through the US via ConocoPhillips, a subsidiary company of Dupont and Phillips66.)

The United States has become the world’s largest exporter of liquefied natural gas alongside Qatar.
This lightning-fast increase in U.S. LNG shipments abroad is all thanks to its ally Europe which has pivoted away from cheap Russian pipeline gas.

[email protected] tells about environmental damage caused by gas acquired through fracking, but does not mention its price.

Currently reading again through Daniel Yergin’s “The New Map”. In this paragraph we could replace Lithuania with Germany - LNG is supporting diversification but not fully depoliticising gas supplies
Germany is burning its own dirty lignite coal and ripping up old growth forest to get at it. Doing deals with Qatar for gas and paying through the nose for LNG. And the price of energy continues to force companies out of Germany. Apart from that all good.
That’s the good news. What’s the bad? https://twitter.com/germanyinusa/status/1608811444656607236
European #gas imports via #LNG tankers could hit 20 bcm for the first time in December, helping the region get through winter largely without Russian imports. With new terminals coming online in 2023 (e.g. in #Germany), 2023 should also be possible. Happy New Year!

What the news is not telling you, is that the same multi-trillion Dollar....
Significant development suggesting Russia's renewed interest to resume energy supply to Germany (Europe). Yamal pipeline capacity 33 bcm; passes through Belarus / Poland. Russian gas much cheaper than LNG from US. Russia reacting to European soundings.

Agree it doesn't ring true, & Qatar has a track record of not letting political issues get in the way of energy decisions - not only the recent LNG agreement with Germany but also the continuation of gas flows to the UAE through the Dolphin pipeline throughout the blockade years.
This is NOT true, this is NOT the language of #Qatar, qatar dose not mix politics with business. #BritishMedia #WorldcupQatar2022
🇩🇪 Gas from Russia hardly flows through pipelines anymore. But as liquefied natural gas, Europe continues to buy the raw material for tens of billions of euros. #germany #mostliked https://www.handelsblatt.com/unternehmen/energie/fluessigerdgas-lng-importe-aus-russland-steigen-auf-rekordhoch/28848426.html?utm_term=organisch&utm_campaign=standard&utm_medium=sm&utm_content=ne&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1670257877

For a data visualization on how stupid @JustinTrudeau's "no business case" comment was for exporting LNG to Germany, look at this map. Canada could be the world's wealthiest nation per capita if it could export energy through the Pacific and Atlantic. Instead libs stop exports
