Qatar confirms need for environment protection – The Peninsula

Geneva: The State of Qatar has given great attention to the protection of environment and the preservation of its natural resources for the sake of future generations, saying that it has placed this issue among its priorities.

This came in the statement delivered by Advisor at the Office of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Al Suwaidi, before the Human Rights Council at its 49th session, during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment.

Al Suwaidi praised the report prepared by the Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment in cooperation with the Special Rapporteur on the implications of managing resources and hazardous waste, stressing that the State of Qatar shares their view on the need to take immediate and urgent measures to combat human rights violations resulting from environmental pollution, especially in the most affected areas, and to adopt a human rights-based approach to prevent exposure to pollution and ensure a healthy, safe and sound environment.
