China’s CEEC to build green hydrogen project in Morocco

China Energy Engineering Corp (CEEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia's Ajlan & Bros and Morocco's Gaia Energy to build a green hydrogen project in southern Morocco, France-based research firm Enerdata reported on Sunday.

The project comprises a 32,000 tonnes of green hydrogen plant to produce 140,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, powered by a 2-gigawatt (GW) solar photovoltaic power plant and a 4 GW wind power plant.

Once completed, the facility is expected to provide stable, clean energy to southern Morocco and Europe, the report said.

In March, the Egyptian government announced that CEEC will start construction of a $5.1 billion hydrogen project in Egypt in May 2023.
