ADSW 2022: UAE-Japan sign 3 agreements to advance energy transition

The UAE and Japan signed three agreements to help accelerate the energy transition and the adoption of technology in industry.

The signings took place during a meeting between Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and UAE Special Envoy to Japan, and Yasutoshi Nishimura, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2023.

The three agreements were:

- Memorandum of Understanding between the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to enhance partnerships between Emirati and Japanese companies as well as explore joint investment opportunities in the areas of advanced industrial technologies and carbon reduction.

- Joint study agreement between ADNOC and Tsubame BHB for research and development to find new solutions for manufacturing ammonia.

- MoU between the Masdar and JERA for collaboration in green hydrogen and renewable energy.

The agreements fall within the framework of the comprehensive economic partnership signed by the two countries in September 2022.
