COP28 will support developing countries and emerging economies to move towards green transition

Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Rania A. Al Mashat, said the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) which the UAE will host from November 30 to December 12, 2023 at Expo City Dubai, will provide a major and important international platform to address the issue of climate change and its negative effects on countries and peoples.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Mashat said that the UAE's hosting of the COP28, following Egypt's hosting of the previous edition of COP27, comes in support of international efforts for climate action in the Arab region and the Middle East and North Africa region, and as a leverage for international focus on climate action in the region.

She noted that international reports indicate that the countries in the Middle East and North Africa region are most vulnerable to climate change risks, as 60% of the region's population lives in areas that suffer severely from water stress, and 20 million people could be displaced due to climate change.
