Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec) is seeking developers to build a 1,500 megawatt solar power facility in Abu Dhabi as the emirate ramps up its green energy drive.
The utility has issued a request for proposals to qualified companies that have expressed interest in developing the Khazna Solar Photovoltaic project.
A total of 27 companies submitted expressions of interest last year. Nineteen have qualified for the next stage which is expected to run until the end of September.

Once fully operational, Khazna will generate enough electricity for about 160,000 homes across the UAE. It is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 2 million metric tonnes per year, equivalent to removing 470,000 cars from the road.
