Ministry of Climate Change and Environment addresses decarbonizing the building and real estate sector at Ninth National Dialogue for Climate Ambition

- COP28 will provide an opportunity for companies to exchange experiences and the most effective ways to achieve net zero by 2050.

Dubai-UAE:– The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) hosted the ninth National Dialogue for Climate Ambition (NDCA), held under the theme “Decarbonizing the Buildings Sector” and dedicated to accelerate the national efforts across all sectors to achieve net zero targets by 2050.

In her keynote speech, Her Excellency Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized that cutting down on carbon emissions is the cornerstone of the fight against climate change as it has cross-cutting benefits on climate mitigation measures and reduces the risk of loss and damage.

“The buildings and construction sector contribute significantly to the national carbon footprint. Globally, the buildings and construction sector is estimated to account for up to 40 per cent of annual GHG emissions. This sector has the most embedded emissions as it relies heavily on concrete, which is one of the most used products globally. The industry is increasingly recognizing that it must act now to reduce its environmental impact,” Her Excellency said.
