UAE delegation joins nations from around the world at 5th IAEA Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century

ABU DHABI, 27th October 2022 (WAM) – Mohamed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), has led the UAE’s delegation at the 5th International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century, held in Washington DC, United States, from 26 to 28 October.

The conference brings together ministers, policymakers, senior officials and experts to engage in high-level dialogue on the role of nuclear energy in the transition to clean energy sources, and its contribution to sustainable development and climate change mitigation, with momentum in the civil nuclear sector taking on a new pace.

Christer Vicktorsson, Director General of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and senior executives from UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, ENEC and FANR joined the UAE delegation.

Al Hammadi showcased the success and impact of the UAE nuclear energy sector in driving rapid decarbonization, supporting the UAE’s efforts towards achieving Net Zero by 2050. As a result of the continued support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and experts from many responsible nations around the world, the UAE has made swift and safe progress at Barakah, with the Plant now being the single largest source of clean electricity
