Abu Dhabi Airports, Masdar complete Abu Dhabi’s largest solar-powered car park

Abu Dhabi Airports, the owner and operator of the emirate's five airports, and Masdar have completed the development of Abu Dhabi's largest solar-powered car park, with 7,542 solar panels producing electricity. The three-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) project will save 5,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year, according to a press release on Tuesday. The PV panels are installed on car shading at the short-term car parking facility of the Midfield Terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The car parking facility will be powered by the energy produced by the grid-connected project, with excess energy fed to other sections of the airport. Masdar's Energy Services department has provided the project with financing, design, procurement, and construction, in addition to operation and maintenance services for 25 years under a lease agreement.
