Egypt’s Bahr al-Baqar drainage diversion project ‘one of the largest’ treatment plans in the world: Official – Egypt Today

CAIRO - 29 November 2022: Egypt has one of the largest drainage diversion stations in the world, dedicated to water treatment as part of the Bahr El-Baqar Drainage Treatment Project.

The project aims to divert the Bahr al-Baqar path to the east of the branch, which is one of the giant projects established by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to raise the status of Lake Manzala with the aim of reducing pollution, said Engineer Magdy Zaher, Executive Director of the Manzala Lake in the three sectors of Port Said, Damietta and Dakahlia.

"It aims to diverting the path of the Bahr al-Baqar drain, instead of polluting the Lake Manzala, and it also aims to develop fisheries and protect the environment," he added.

Zaher said that the Bahr al-Baqar drain is one of the largest drains that flow into Lake Manzala, with a length of 190 km.

The Executive Director of Lake Manzala added that the drain is considered one of the most dangerous sources of environmental pollution in Egypt, and therefore the Bahr El-Baqar Drainage Diversion Station is the largest water treatment plant in the world for the Bahr El-Baqar Drainage Treatment Project, with the aim of benefiting from the agricultural drain water with 6
