Egypt’s Sisi orders intensifying work in power linkage projects with neighbouring countries

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi ordered the government to intensify efforts of implementing power linkage projects with neighbouring regional countries.

He called for maximising the benefit from electricity on a yearly basis, whether through local consumption or export to the countries linked to the interconnection networks.

The president's directives were issued during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, and Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker on Wednesday to follow up on the progress concerning the national projects related to the electricity sector, according to a statement by the presidential spokesman Bassam Rady.

The meeting also dealt with the latest developments concerning electrical interconnection grids with Saudi Arabia and Jordan, as well as the trilateral interconnection grids between Egypt, Iraq and Jordan.
