In Photos: Egypt’s Sisi inspects developmental projects in Greater Cairo

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi inspected on Friday a number of developmental road projects in Old Cairo as well as other projects being implemented in East Cairo.

El-Sisi inspected the network of bridges that has been constructed to link Old Cairo's Civilization Axis area with the main roads of Cairo, said Presidential spokesman Bassam Radi. This comes as part of a comprehensive plan to develop the historic Ain Al-Sira area and the vicinity of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Old Cairo.

The president also inspected developmental work in the vicinity of Old Cairo's Al-Sayeda Aisha district, after the removal of slums that had "obliterated the features of the historic area,“ Radi added.

Dwellers of these areas were moved to new cities that have been constructed to provide decent, safe and appropriate housing units for slum residents where social services are being secured, the spokesman said.

Radi added that these efforts are "within the framework of the state's plan to bring the Old Cairo area back to its civilizational splendor and the ancient historic heritage it possesses.“

This heritage includes the Fustat area, the Cairo Citadel Aqueduct, the Religions Complex and historic mosques, Radi added.
