SFD-funded King Salman traffic intersection development opens in Jordan

AMMAN: The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Square opened in Amman on Tuesday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The project is one of several traffic intersections in the Jordanian capital financed by the Saudi Fund for Development in a $60 million investment.

The development includes the construction of a tunnel and three overpass bridges connecting to the main road, as well as the renovation of side roads, street lighting and a rainwater drainage system.

The project bids to facilitate vehicle movement and alleviate congestion in commercial and residential areas, as well as aiding road safety.

Ahmad Maher Abul Samen, Jordan’s minister of public works and housing, and minister of transport, thanked the Kingdom for its support of his country’s transportation sector, noting that the square will enable the flow of some 80,000 vehicles each day.

Saudi Ambassador to Jordan Naif bin Bandar Al-Sudairi said at the opening ceremony that the Kingdom was supportive of the Jordanian government’s efforts to advance the country in various economic and social fields, as well as backing measures it was taking to adapt to global challenges and situations.

Al-Sudairi added that the project reflected the Saudi government’s enthusiasm in supporting development in Jordan, which helped to lay the building blocks
