National Commission for Lebanese Women, UN-Habitat sign agreement of cooperation aimed to raise awareness on women’s housing, land and property rights in Lebanon

NNA - The National Commission for Lebanese Women, represented by its President, Ms. Claudine Aoun, signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme – UN-Habitat, represented by its Head of Country Programme in Lebanon, Ms. Taina Christiansen, at the premises of the National Commission, in the presence of representatives from both working teams. 

This cooperation agreement aims to raise awareness on women's housing, land and property rights in Lebanon and the importance of enhancing and ensuring these rights for all women.

The agreement will launch a campaign, that will highlight the importance of women benefiting from these rights in securing their well-being and the well-being of their families, in their economic empowerment and in achieving equality between women and men. It will further raise awareness on how these rights can increase women’s empowerment and participation in decision making within the household and in the public life, and can protect women from gender-based violence, health hazards and forced evictions.

The campaign in Lebanon will form part of an ongoing regional campaign by UN-Habitat and the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) to promote the housing, land and property (HLP) rights of women in the Arab region and draw the public’s attention to the
