Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) has announced near completion of ongoing road projects in Dhofar ahead of the khareef season.

Eng Said bin Mohammed Tabouk, Director General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar governorate, reported that the construction of box ferries in Wadi Andob, Salalah, is 85% complete. This RO1.5mn project involves construction of a bridge and necessary protective structures along the road that is expected to open for traffic by the end of June.

Additionally, the directorate is intensifying maintenance works on several roads across Dhofar.

A five-year annual maintenance project, costing RO3mn, covers the asphalt road network, including repairs and regular maintenance.

Other projects, include annual maintenance of the mountain dirt road network (RO2.1mn) and the desert dirt road network (RO2.4mn).

These projects involve backfilling of pits, dust removal, road levelling and surveys – maintaining regulatory guidelines.

Repair works on the Mirbat-Hasak-Shuwaymiya road, which had gotten damaged due to the tropical depression of 2020, also finished as per plan, Tabouk informed. This RO1.18mn project involved relaying of asphalt layers in affected areas, besides concrete protection works along the road.
