Oman to observe Safer Internet Day on Tuesday

Muscat – To raise awareness on emerging online issues and current concerns with the objective of keeping school students and their guardians safe online, the Ministry of Education (MoE) will celebrate Safer Internet Day on Tuesday.

Safer Internet Day is observed in February every year.

An official at MOE said, “The ministry will celebrate Safer Internet Day on Tuesday, with the aim of spreading the culture and concepts of electronic security among school students and their parents.”He informed that the ministry will also launch a hashtag #SID2023OM on the day.

“The aim is to protect students from the dangers of the Internet and spread awareness among parents to provide a safe environment for their children when using the Internet.”

According to the official, the ministry will also hold a virtual workshop through social media called ‘Safe Use of the Internet’.

“Experts from Microsoft will present working papers on cybersecurity. The ministry will also publish short video clips presenting tips for safe and positive use of the Internet.”

On the day, MoE, in cooperation with Middle East College, will launch a competition via its twitter account on electronic security.

The ministry urged students to participate in the competition.
