Team formed to study Muscat Metro project, says H E Ma’awali

Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has ordered to appoint a specialised consultant to improve the performance of Oman Air and a special team has been formed to study the Muscat Metro project, according to H E Said bin Hamoud al Ma’awali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

Eng Ma’awali made the statements when he was hosted by Majlis A’Shura on Thursday to discuss the ministry’s plans and programmes in the field of transport and infrastructure during the tenth five-year plan, in line with the Oman Vision 2040, as well as the ministry’s development budget for the year 2023 and the strategic directives of the communications and information technology sector.

During the meeting, H E Ma’awali said that the ministry has formed a special team to study the Muscat Metro project and some preliminary studies have been conducted for the railway link with Saudi Arabia. He confirmed that His Majesty the Sultan has ordered to appoint a specialised consultant to improve the performance of Oman Air.

The minister added that the talks are on to reduce fuel prices so as to encourage both existing and new airlines and to reduce airfares on the Muscat-Salalah route.
