‎Saudi Intellectual Property Authority handles 37,000 trademark applications in 2021

Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property received nearly 37,000 applications to obtain trademarks from inside and outside the Kingdom, according to the official spokesperson Yasser Hakami.

The number of applications from within the Kingdom reached 23,700, or 64%, in 2021, while the number of applications from outside Saudi Arabia reached 13,200, or 36%, of total submitted applications, Al-Eqtisadiah reported.

The authority recently launched an inspection campaign to verify the commercial shops’ commitment to intellectual property regulations in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Public Security, resulting in the seizure of more than 40,000 trademark violations.

Regarding penalties, offenders are punishable by imprisonment for a period of at least one month up to three years, and/or a fine of at least SAR 5,000 up to SAR 1 million, as determined by the judiciary.
