Public Prosecution gets intellectual property wing

Saudi Gazette reportRIYADH — The Council of Public Prosecution, headed by Attorney General Sheikh Saud Al-Muajab, approved the establishment of the Intellectual Property wing under the Public Prosecution.This is in implementation of the National Intellectual Property Strategy launched by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, which includes making available the most appropriate environment to provide, organize and develop judicial services in the areas of intellectual property.It is one of the main possibilities for realizing the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and to confirm the integration with the Public Prosecution in the governance of criminal work related to intellectual property to achieve speedy justice.This prosecution wing will be responsible for investigating and filing criminal proceedings in cases related to the violation of intellectual property rights stipulated in the Trademark Law and the Copyright Protection Law, referred to by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, in addition to the Law of Patents.It is noteworthy that these prosecutions will enhance the development of prosecution work in the comprehensive judicial protection of intellectual property. These prosecutions will have a cadre of qualified public prosecutors, who have been trained and acquired the necessary skills in accordance with the standards of legal competence
