The cluster will include the construction of 17 small plants, which will have varying capacities from 1,000m3 per day to 15,000m3 per day, coupled with associated collection networks of a total length of 1,500km, according to the SWPC.

The project will include the construction of influent connections, tanker discharge points, all by-passes, inlet works and primary, secondary and tertiary treatment, pumping facilities including all the associated buildings, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical supply, control and instrumentation infrastructure.

The winning bidder, through an incorporated project company, will develop the SSTP project on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model under a 25-year sewage treatment and collection network implementation agreement with SWPC.

KPMG Al Fozan & Partners will serve as the lead and financial advisors; Jacobs Engineering Group will be the technical advisor; and Amer Al Amr Law Firm will be the legal advisor.

Approximately 46 companies, including 27 Saudi firms, have expressed their interest in the RFQs as part of 38 consortia, according to the SWPC.

These include Spain's Acciona Agua, FCC Aqualia, and Copasa,
