Abu Dhabi Municipality constructs rainwater drainage projects worth $56.26mn – MEP MiddleEast

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City is implementing several projects to develop rainwater drainage networks on Abu Dhabi Island and the mainland, at a cost of $56.26mn (AED206.66mn).

The projects aim to develop rainwater drainage systems and networks in business areas; to establish new networks; to increase the capacity and raise the efficiency of existing networks; to develop rainwater pumping stations; to prevent flooding due to rainwater; and to divert rainwater drainage lines that are in conflict with the development of residential projects.

The municipality's projects also include works to develop rainwater drainage networks within Abu Dhabi Island, Saadiyat Island, Al Reem Island, Al Maryah Island, and Yas Island, at a total cost of $11.57mn (AED42.5mn).

The island projects aim to complete ongoing construction of rain drainage networks in newly developed areas; to improve efficiencies, enhance operations, and offer better maintenance solutions for rainwater and groundwater drainage systems; and to replace damaged rainwater drainage channels.

In addition, implementation works are currently underway to repair rainwater drainage rooms and replace the covers of drainage systems from the (DI) type to the type (GRP) at a cost of $789,500 (AED2.9mn). Solutions for rainwater catchment points have already been implemented in 25 sites, and will be implemented
