Dubai releases 21 endangered turtles into the Arabian Gulf – Gulf Today

Gulf Today, Staff Reporter

In a demonstration of Dubai's ongoing commitment to marine biodiversity and ecosystems, Jumeirah Group’s Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project has released 15 Hawksbill and 6 Green Turtles, both of which are considered endangered species, from its Jumeirah Al Naseem beach. Coinciding with the occasion of World Sea Turtle Day 2023, the release underscores the vital role turtles play in maintaining the balance of marine habitats.

Dedicated to the preservation of endangered turtle species, the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project tirelessly focuses on the conservation of the hawksbill turtle, a critically endangered species that annually nests along the Gulf coast. Among the successfully rehabilitated turtles were one large female green turtle which had suffered carapace damage due to a boat strike, as well as a male hawksbill turtle named Zippy.
