OCCI debates private sector and labour market issues



Muscat: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) held its first Ramadhan Night under the title ‘Dialogue Between the Three Production Parties to Regulate the Labour Market’, on Monday.The event was held under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat.Economic experts and specialists discussed the challenges and difficulties facing the private sector with regard to the labour market in the Sultanate of Oman and ways to stabilize it.Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman, OCCI Board of Directors, said that regulating the labour market is a key to improving the business environment and empowering the private sector. He added that the event brought together representatives from the three production parties: the government represented by the Ministry of Labour, workers represented by the General Federation of the Sultanate of Oman Workers as well as the OCCI.He added that the Ramadhan Night discussed the changes in the Omani Labour Law and the obligations and rights of both employers and workers. He added that the event is dedicated to debating challenges and difficulties facing private sector institutions with regard to the labour market and the role of social dialogue in achieving stability in the labour market.
