Retail store in Ajman closed, fined Dhs5,000 due to overcrowding during a sale

A retail outlet in Ajman was shut down and fined Dhs5,000 for violating Covid-19 precautionary measures.

The store held a promotional sale, which caused overcrowding during the weekend.

A video shared by the Ajman Police on social media showed huge crowds, with no physical distancing maintained between shoppers.

Ajman's Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management team called on shopkeepers to adhere to all guidelines and decisions issued to limit the spread of the pandemic.

The team stressed that no violations will be tolerated and violators will be slapped hefty fines.

Ajman has been tightening measures in the last few weeks. It instructed all restaurants and cafes in the emirate to close daily by 11pm, starting February 23.

The government has also banned the setting up of public Ramadan tents in the emirate.

On February 10, it was announced that in-classroom learning across all schools and nurseries in Ajman had been suspended indefinitely.

The decision was made "in response to the strategic requirements pursued by the UAE to ensure the health and safety of UAE citizens and residents in general, and our students, and the school community in particular“, a statement said.
