Ransomware is the fastest-growing threat to business continuity in Bahrain and GCC

Ransomware is the fastest-growing Cybercrime and risk to Business continuity, sustainable development, and the global economy. This is according to findings by experts in the field of IT and cybersecurity. They noted that the increase in the number of public and commercial organisations boosting their human and financial resources to preserve their Cybersecurity, protect their data, and ensure disaster recovery & business continuity is indicative of how seriously organisations in the Kingdom of Bahrain are taking the threats. According to experts, organisations and businesses engaged in sensitive activities, such as managing citizens’ records and financial transactions (such as water, electricity facilities, energy, health, financial and banking services) are the main targets for cyberattacks. They cautioned that SMEs are also targets for cybercriminals as smaller businesses and organisations typically have weaker digital defenses. These matters were discussed during the “NGN Majlis: Ransomware Awareness Series event” organized by NGN International, a well-established systems integrator and managed security service provider based in Bahrain.
