World News: Macron vows unity after poll victory – Gulf Digital News

BAHRAIN’S leadership joined world leaders in congratulating Emmanuel Macron, who pledged unity after winning a second term as French president.

Congratulating President Macron on his re-election last night, His Majesty King Hamad wished him success in his duties to achieve the further development, progress and prosperity for the French people.

The King stressed Bahrain’s keenness to further develop relations with France.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent a similar cable of congratulations.

Macron comfortably defeated his far-right rival Marine Le Pen, heading off a political earthquake for Europe but acknowledging dissatisfaction with his first term and saying he would seek to make amends.

His supporters erupted with joy as the results appeared on a giant screen at the Champ de Mars park by the Eiffel tower.
