UAE launches programme for coders to establish 1,000 digital companies

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has launched the 'National Programme for Coders', a new initiative aiming to boost the UAE's digital economy. In collaboration with Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco, IBM, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), LinkedIn, Nvidia and Facebook, the initiative was introduced to train 100,000 coders and set up 1,000 digital companies in five years, according to a recent press release. In addition, the investment in startups will increase from AED 1.5 billion to AED 4 billion. The programme focuses on supporting coders, entrepreneurs, startups, large companies, and the academic sector, developing a comprehensive platform to enhance linkages between coders and local companies and universities, and attracting International coding professionals to the UAE. In the meantime, global skill development initiatives will be launched to feature international trainers to improve the efficiency of local talent.
