Egypt converts the largest government building in Cairo into a luxury hotel

The Egyptian government aims to develop the Tahrir Complex in order to benefit from it on several levels in the heart of the capital, Cairo.

On December 6, 2021, an international consortium of developers and investors including: Oxford Capital Group, Global Ventures Group and Al Otaiba Investments was selected to be the winning bid for the development and repurposing of the historic Tahrir complex in Tahrir Square.

According to Oxford Capital Group, a member of the winning consortium, the development plan will change the name of the Tahrir complex to “Cairo House”, turning it into a luxury hotel and a mixed-use complex.

The development plan, valued at more than US$ 200 million, to redevelop the complex aims to create a pioneering mix and develop the uses of the building, to reimagine downtown Cairo and to invest in the future in the Egyptian economy.

Designed by Chicago-based architect RATIO | smdp, the CairoHouse will include more than 450 luxury hotel rooms and serviced apartments, and numerous world-class dining and entertainment venues.

It will also feature a large meeting and event space of 85,000 square feet, including the largest rooftop venue in Cairo.
